Dave East has become a household name to hip-hop fans across the globe, and it shouldn’t be a surprise. Within the past year he has released a catalog of quality records, inking him a spot on this year’s XXL Freshman Class. 5 days ago East signed a new deal with Def Jam Recordings, and he made sure to credit his mentor Nasir Jones.
I Remember Sittin In My Nasty Ass Cell Tellin My Celly Ima Do The Music Thing When I Get Out This Shit. Went Hard As I Possibly Could Then @nas Signed Me. I'll Never Have To Live In The Projects Again And That Was A Real Dream. Thank You @defjamrecords For Welcoming Me To The Family #FreakyForever 🎱
During the interview with the Breakfast Club on September 29th, East announced that his album will be executive produced by Nas. The next day East dropped his mixtape “Kairi Chanel”, which may have caused some confusion for listeners! After hitting the #1 spot on iTunes with ease East provided some clarity to the confusion via Twitter, clarifying that Kairi Chanel was NOT his debut album.
With the new deal, and several projects at the end of 2016, it seems as if 2017 will only lead to greater accomplishments for the young New York native. In the meantime, take a listen to Kairi Chanel here:
